DuPage County

There is still open space in DuPage County and we are working to preserve it.

In April 2013, we completed an open space plan for the county in conjunction with the forest preserve and park districts, municipalities, and resident volunteers. From this plan, we developed a list of property owners to contact to see if they have an interest in preserving their property. We have gotten a lot of positive feedback and we are working with landowners throughout the county. Not only are we preserving the land, we are working with DuPage County Stormwater Management to clean up the rivers through Adopt-A-Stream, River Sweep, and Storm Drain Stenciling programs.

We are also working with homeowners and businesses to promote the use of native plant species and on-site stormwater management practices. Landowners that demonstrate good environmental stewardship and conservation of local resources can become certified in our Conservation@Home or Conservation@Work programs.

The 60-acre McDonald Farm in Naperville is the place The Conservation Foundation calls home, and the Farm’s water conservation and renewable energy project clearly demonstrates to all of our visitors the environmentally responsible ideals we stand for. We are working hard to make McDonald Farm a showcase of conservation in action that will stir others to act as well.
